Fantasmic! to be cut back to two shows per week
Starting in January 2009, Disney will reduce performances of Fantasmic! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to just two nights per week. According to the Orlando Sentinel performers were informed on Friday.
There are no plans to replace the show with another form of night time entertainment – though the daily American Idol competition will take place towards the end of the park day.
I love Fantasmic! and I’ve never seen an empty ampitheatre – even when we travel in the low season. There’s always lots of people waiting at the rope up to an hour before the performance.
It seems Disney is expecting lower guest numbers over coming months – perhaps as an impact of the economic slowdown. Unless anything else changes Magic Kingdom and Epcot will be the only parks with 7-day night time entertainment.
